Well I had ta take this job cause it was the only one I found, well
It was takin' them dead bodies and puttin' em in the ground
Could'a cared less for heaven or hell they were bound, but...
Wasn't makin' much money, we had to find a way
To increase our daily income, thought maybe the dead could pay
So we'd sell them bodies an' they'd come take 'em away.
Was a bit weird particularly at night, bodies disappearin' was quite a site.
Good thing was they couldn't put up a fight,
Didn't think it was wrong, but knew it wasn't right.
There was just things that we didn't wanna do
But ta try to earn a livin' we just had ta see it through
Always kept that secret, yeah, just between us two, but...
Life was on the side 'a wrong, things you just couldn't tell
Like all that stinkin' money, from cadavers we would sell
It's kinda like ridin' the escalator all the way to hell.
Times were hard, business was slow, but the dead had nowhere to go
We buried the bodies deep in the ground
But if they're dug up, none would be found.
Things were goin' good we were havin' quite a time
But I was countin' all that money yeah, and wishin' it were mine
And lookin' across that table I was seein' my next crime.
So, as I sat there schemin' I must a' looked a little pale
When I heard my wife's voice, what she said I couldn't tell
An' after diggin' that fresh grave I had ta sit a spell.
Now business is good, the money's all mine
The bodies keep comin', there's always a line
As for the job I feel quite fine
But about the wife... well I miss her sometime.
